PRAYER CELLS: HISTORY AND OVERVIEW

  • History of Prayer Cells

In the early church it was not unusual to find hundreds of prayer cells. Many of the cells were headed by mothers from the community. The power of the cells grow until it demanded the placement of a minister to formulate a formal gathering. However it is important to know that the formal gathering does not hinder the constant spreading of the prayer cells.

  • What is a prayer cell?

Prayer cells are homes of Christians that have committed one night per week for friends to come there to pray.  In the early church this was a method used to spread the word and to invigorate the members of the Christian network to grow. This growth was rapid. It is believed it was rapid because of the many homes that participated in the program of house prayer.

  • What makes a Prayer Cell unique?

One unique factor of a prayer cell is it does not have to headed by a clergyman. Prayer cells take in account that every born again members is a minister and is qualified to start a prayer cell. It is also important that no cell is larger that 10 persons. That is because that intent is not to gather large numbers of person in one location. But to start as many prayer cells as possible. All of the cells are made up of persons that have a relationship.

  • Who's the Leader?

The leader of the prayer group usually calls upon his or her friends to start the group. Once a group is started it is linked together with other group by a massive weekly gather of all of the cells. The purpose of this is to allow the cell members to get to know other prayer cells groups.

  • Origins of Church Planting

The cells lead you to what is called Church Planting. Areas of communities that have no churches can have prayer cells to address the spiritual needs of that part of our community.
